Chapter 18 – Beau

Well, damn it. I’d wanted to hate Jamie, but I couldn’t. I’d thought that if I hated the man that had stolen Addy from me, it would make it easier, but in good conscience, I couldn’t say that. When he arrived at the shop yesterday, I’d known who he was, of course. I just didn’t know his name, and it took everything I had to keep my composure and not race out of the shop like the floor was on fire; but if I’d done that, Addy would have guessed something was up.

Yesterday I’d finally decided to go and tell Addy that I was planning on moving out. I was still looking for places and didn’t have any viewings lined up, but my mind had been made up. I’d actually considered asking Mom and Dad if I could go back there, but Addy would have found that just too strange. Of course Jamie had turned up, and all the plans to mention something disappeared. I couldn’t discuss something like that in front of Jamie. I’d hoped that it was going to be a fly-by visit, but of course Addy just had to invite him back to the apartment.

I was able to make a hasty retreat, citing needing a shower, which wasn’t really a lie, but I knew that it took me a lot longer than usual, only just getting changed when the pizza arrived. So, yeah, I ended up talking to him for a while and decided that he was a nice guy, but I was also aware that Addy would be getting very bored and he deserved some time alone with Jamie. Addy hadn’t confirmed that they were a couple to me, but from the way Jamie kept glancing at him, I knew it wouldn’t be long till they were.

Making my excuses, I retreated to my bedroom, throwing my cell onto the bedside table but still too wide awake to sleep, so I’m just lying on my bed staring at the ceiling, thinking back over the events of the evening. Up until meeting Jamie, I had no idea what I’d been planning to say to Addy, but watching the pair of them together, I knew I had the perfect excuse. All I needed to say was that I was giving him the space to develop their relationship without having to worry about whether he was disturbing me or not. Addy would most likely call bullshit and tell me it was fine and try to persuade me to stay, but it would only be delaying the inevitable. If things with Jamie went
